School of Fine Arts Design and Architecture

The Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture at Istanbul Medipol University consists of the departments of Turkish Music, Architecture, Interior Architecture, Industrial Design, Visual Communication Design, Urban Design and Landscape Architecture, and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts. Among these, the Departments of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Industrial Design were the first design programs established within the Faculty, commencing education in the 2015–2016 academic year. Designed with an innovative and ambitious perspective in response to evolving design education models, changing professional roles, and advancing technologies, these programs completed their initial four-year cycle and graduated their first students in the 2018–2019 academic year.
The curricula and studio structures of all design programs have been developed in accordance with principles of critical thinking, inquiry, interdisciplinary association, collaboration, teamwork, and effective knowledge transfer. The educational framework is particularly project- and practice-oriented, encouraging students to actively engage in design processes through experimentation and production.
Within an educational model structured around common courses and shared studios during the first three semesters, students gain a comprehensive design foundation before shaping their individual academic pathways. Supported by a wide range of elective courses, students may specialize in one of five focus areas and continue their academic development through relevant master’s and doctoral programs.
The primary educational objective of our Faculty is to conduct interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary projects at the intersection of architecture, design, and diverse scientific and problem-oriented fields, while preparing students for professional practice during their academic studies. Through our “new generation design education model,” developed with the ambition of offering an approach distinct from conventional models in our country, we aim to educate innovative, contemporary graduates capable of contributing to every field of the design profession.
We firmly believe that our students, equipped with comprehensive knowledge, creativity, and multidisciplinary competencies, will become versatile designers who actively shape the future.
