Aim

The main purpose of the Primary Mathematics Education Program is to train qualified teachers who will guide the future in line with the needs of our country. It is aimed to train highly entrepreneurial teachers who can ask questions in accordance with the needs and requirements of the age, produce solutions to problems, know how to research, capable of critically thinking, produce knowledge rather than receive information, fulfill the duties and responsibilities of teaching profession and have high communication and social skills. It is also one of the most important goals of the program to train mathematics teachers so they can alter mathematics lesson which is seen as a "feared lesson" in the society to "entertaining lesson” in order to make students love mathematics.

First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree)

Registration and Admission Requirements

In order to be accepted to this program, it is necessary to have obtained a diploma by completing a high school or equivalent education and to have obtained sufficient points from the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS). Students are accepted to the program according to the type of numerical score and the principles determined by the Higher Education Council. Foreign Students are accepted within the framework of the success criteria determined by the Senate.

Graduation Requirements

Students, who have successfully completed all the courses, do their practices and internships which are enrolled in the program and who have received at least 240 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits are entitled to a diploma. Graduation achievement grade is determined by the general weighted average of the points.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students may apply for exemption from the courses which they have taken or attained from an institution of higher education or from an accredited institution that they have previously enrolled in. The exemption requests are determined according to the board of directors by taking the opinion of the lecturer who gives the related course.

Theoretical and practical course hours of vocational (professional) clinical courses are not considered weekly. These course hours refer to total course hours.

Program Qualification

KNOWLEDGE


Theoretical, Factual

It verbally refers to the meanings of professional terms and concepts within the scope of primary mathematics teaching. It verbally refers to the basic concepts, principles and techniques of theories in the field of primary mathematics teaching. It compares the theories in its field and lists the strengths and weaknesses of each theory verbally.

SKILLS


Cognitive, Practical

In the field of primary mathematics teaching, he applies the necessary intervention in connection with the education he receives regarding the situations or problems he encounters professionally.

COMPETENCIES


Ability to work independently and take responsibility

A problem he faces professionally, he analyzes and solves it based on scientific methods. He solves a problem he faces professionally on his own. It makes necessary interventions by distinguishing between situations that are within the scope of their duties and responsibilities from a professional point of view and situations that are not.

Learning Competence

Follows new developments related to the profession in line with the principle of lifelong learning from a professional point of view.

Communication and Social Competence

In the process of resolving a problem from a professional point of view, he consults with his colleagues when necessary. When he encounters a problem, he formulates it in writing or verbally. He has a sense of social responsibility and uses his professional gains to solve problems in his immediate and distant environment. He speaks at least B1 level English to monitor international professional developments.

Field-based Competence

He knows the basic concepts of his profession. Applies basic skills related to his profession. It applies measurement and evaluation tools in accordance with its purpose and in line with ethical principles. In a professional subject, it conducts research by choosing the appropriate research method.

Employment Opportunities

Our students who graduated from Primary Mathematics Education program can work with the title of "primary school mathematics teacher" in state or private education institutions. In addition, they may also have the opportunity to work as academicians at universities if they meet the necessary conditions and acquire job opportunities in the private sector by improving their mathematics and computer knowledge.

Upgrading

Students may apply to master’s and doctoral programs and arts proficiency programs according to the rules determined by the Higher Education Council of Turkey and related higher education institution.

Assessment and Evaluation

Successfull completion of theoretical and practical courses is evaluated by mid-term and final exams. Criteria for passing can be found in University's Education and Training Regulations and our School's Education and Training Regulations and Exam Directives.

Öğretme – öğrenme yöntem ve stratejileri, öğrencilerin kendi kendine çalışma, yaşam boyu öğrenme, gözlem yapma, başkasına öğretme, sunma, eleştirel düşünme, takım çalışması, bilişimden etkin yararlanma gibi becerilerini arttıracak şekilde seçilmektedir.
