The Head of Biochemistry Division of the School of Pharmacy, Istanbul Medipol University, Assoc. Prof. Ozan Emre Eyupoğlu’s work titled ‘Formulation Containing Essential Oils and Wood Vinegar for Natural Fight against Varroa Parasite in Beekeeping’ was registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT). The patent in question provides important contributions in the fight against the “Varroa Parasite” that settles on bees as a host. Developed as an alternative to existing sulfur-containing drugs, the formula provides a natural solution by using thyme, anise, clove, cardamom, and mint oils together with wood vinegar. It can also be applied directly to vaporizer devices or mats, added to electroliquid devices and evaporated into beehives.

“70 PERCENT EFFECTIVE ON VARROA PARASITE”
Assoc. Prof. Eyupoğlu said that ‘Varroa Parasite’ can be prevented to a great extent thanks to the developed content. Stating that 70 percent success was achieved on the parasite in trials in beehives in cold climate conditions with superior synergistic effect, Eyupoğlu said: “Beekeepers can prefer this formulation over chemical pesticides because it contains essential oils that can easily evaporate. The formulation has significant advantages over chemical drugs. These advantages include the fact that it can be easily heated and can be easily used in the form of incense. The formula also offers a user-friendly option for controlling the parasite. As a result, this special formulation offers a reliable, effective, and environmentally friendly alternative for beekeepers.”
