Istanbul Medipol University School of Pharmacy faculty member Dr. Ayşe Esra Karadağ developed an herbal product called “Kruidenfar Kamomint.” Noting that the product is standardized and contains different plant extracts, Karadağ said that it will be beneficial in the throat and mouth with its cell regenerative properties. About the product, which is used to repair the skin in case of skin irritations, Karadağ added: “This product, which emerged as a TÜBİTAK project output, does not contain any preservatives, colorants, sweeteners, and alcohol. Therefore, it can be safely used both orally and on the skin for ages 2 and above. All biological activity studies of the product, which is very simple and clean in terms of content, were carried out by me, and toxicity tests were completed. It has not been released to the market with a drug license in the known sense, but we can call it an herbal cosmeceutical product.”

“TÜRKİYE’S FLORA IS VERY RICH”
Karadağ, who has been working at Istanbul Medipol University for 10 years, said that Türkiye has a very rich and fertile flora for developing herbal products. Noting that she continues to work to increase the number of quality and standard herbal products in Türkiye, Karadağ said: “For years, I have been examining the ‘standard herbal products’, especially in Germany, on site at every opportunity. Sometimes I take samples and work on them. My goal and dream is to see truly high quality and standard herbal products in the Turkish market. We started our work for this purpose and built our mission in this direction. Vegetable raw materials for a significant portion of the products in Germany come from Türkiye. Our country is also very rich and fertile in terms of flora. To evaluate this with a scientific output, I founded my company within Teknopark. The product we developed was not released to the market with a ‘pharmaceutical license’ as it is known, but we can say that it is an herbal phytotherapeutic product.”
