Istanbul Medipol University Office of Students with Disability and Occupational Therapy Club organized an event titled “Independent Living and Occupational Therapy for the Visually Impaired”. President of Beyazay Association of Türkiye Lokman Ayva, Occupational Therapists Ferhan Kır and Özlem Çiller, academicians, and students attended the event held at the South Campus Conference Hall. At the conference, the difficulties faced by visually impaired people in daily life and solution suggestions for their independent lives were discussed. Kır and Çiller, who are also graduates of our university, introduced the project they are working on, ‘Independent Yoga for the Visually Impaired’. Speaking at the conference, Lokman Ayva stated that the education system in Türkiye has disadvantages for the visually impaired. Ayva added: “Our education system is focused on vision. It is very difficult for everyone to have technological devices that enable vision. Visually impaired people are also excluded by their peers. In any case, it is important that they do not pay attention to these negative situations and maintain their motivation.”
