Aim | The concept of civil society and its relationship with democracy is one of the topics of theoretical and everyday debates on social and political processes. The course "Civil Society Debates" aims to introduce students to the main concepts, theories and debates on this relationship. To this end, the course will first focus on different perspectives on the concepts of civil society and democracy, and then on different theories of civil society's contribution to democracy. In order to illustrate the relationship between civil society and democracy, it will explain how civil society relates to various social structures and processes. In doing so, this course will focus on how various civil society organizations in Turkey have approached important issues in Turkish democracy, such as the headscarf ban and the Kurdish question. |
