Assistant(s) | Occupational therapists take into account that occupational inequality particularly affects vulnerable groups such as the disabled, the elderly, the homeless, cultural and religious minority groups, the unemployed, prisoners, people with substance use disorders and refugees, and create solutions for participation. Supporting the social and mental health of children is seen as an important task for occupational therapists in the future. In this context, new roles for occupational therapists include providing social skills development and awareness raising trainings, life coaching, and working as an activist for disadvantaged groups affected by educational injustices. Occupational therapy theorists and practitioners have created theories and conceptual models that explain the building blocks, structures, principles, and nature of science, supported by philosophical assumptions. Theories, conceptual and practical models explain, predict, and provide perspective on human behavior in relation to health and ocupational performance. In the light of practice models, different approaches are being developed in occupational therapy and evidence-based research is increasing day by day. |
