AimTo investigate the development of music and musical instruments from ancient times until today, and to examine the lives of musicians who lived in different cultures and major music events.
Course ContentThis course contains; 1. Artistic and musical concepts. Music History Documents: Music and Iconography.,2. Music in antiquity: relationship with the music of philosophers like Pythagoras, Plato and Aristotle.,3. Music of ancient civilizations: Like Egypt, Sumer, China, India, Ancient Greek, Hebrew, Roman, Arab, Kyrgyz, Tibet.,4. Medieval music, bards, the first note, medieval instruments. (Interaction with other arts).,5. Ages and Renaissance, Gothic, Renaissance music writing, late Renaissance.,6. Baroque; The Birth of Opera; Claudio Monteverdi, Jean-Baptiste Luly important opera composers such as Henry Purcell; Baroque period instruments; Concerto, Sonata (CD listening).,7. Exam preparation. MIDTERM,8. 17th century music and instruments, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel (CD listening).,9.
