The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to scientific and critical thinking skills that student will hone further in future courses such as Research Methods. The topics in the course include the basic characteristics of science, the falsifiability principle, operationism, the value and limitations of case studies, the difference between correlational and causal evidence, experimental control, the concepts of risk and randomness, and probabilistic reasoning.
