Department of Nutrition and Dietetics drew attention to ‘cystic fibrosis’

Istanbul Medipol University School of Health Sciences Department of Nutrition and Dietetics organized a conference titled “Awareness Meeting – Living with Cystic Fibrosis”. In the event held at the South Campus Conference Hall, attention was drawn to the genetic disease ‘cystic fibrosis’, which causes the body to produce thick and sticky mucus that affects various organs of the body due to the involvement of the protein called CFTR. İlknur Görgün, President of the Cystic Fibrosis Association (KİFDER), made the opening speech of the conference where current information about the disease was presented. In addition to the establishment process of the association, Görgün talked about the problems of families living with cystic fibrosis and emphasized that the association addresses the problems with a multidisciplinary approach. At the event, Prof. Sedat Öktem presented “Current Medical Treatments in Cystic Fibrosis Disease”, Lecturer Dr. Merve Pehlivan “Current Nutrition Therapy in Cystic Fibrosis Disease”, and Faculty Member Dr. Seda Saka “The Role and Importance of Exercise in Cystic Fibrosis Disease”.
