At the end of these lectures; COMPREHEND
Appreciates the basic concepts of cellular changes, adaptation mechanisms, cellular injury and inflammation due to the damage. 2.1. Defines the reasons and mechanisms of cellular injury, cell death and necrosis, pathophysiological changes due to the cellular aging. 2.2. Explains the general features, morphological findings and systemic effects of inflammation. 2.3. Explains the mechanisms of normal cellular proliferation, basic concepts of stem cells, tissue regeneration and healing mechanisms. 2.4. Defines normal homeostasis and hemodynamic disturbances. 2.5. Describes the edema, hiperemia and congestion and gives examples for each. 2.6. Defines the mechanisms of homeostasis, trombosis, emboli, and their morphologic changes. 2.7. Comprehend the basic rules of infarct and shock.
3. Appreciate the basic concepts of neoplasia and carcinogenesis. 3.1. Defines the nomenclature of the tumors, main fetaures of malignant ve benign tumors. 3.2. Defines the factors leading to cancer formation and basics of cancer epidemiology. 3.3. Summarizes steps of cancer spread, grading and staging of tumors and gives examples. 3.4. Summarizes the steps of carcinogenesis.
4. Summarizes how immune system acts in normal and pathologic processes. 4.1. Appreciates the normal components of the immune system. 4.2. Summarizes the basic mechanisms of hypersensitivite reactions and their examples.
6. Defines the basic features of hemathologic diseases. 6.1. Appreciates the normal lymph node structure. 6.2. Defines the reactive changes of lymp nodes. 6.3. Classifies the hematologicl malignancies according to the cell type. 6.4. Classifies the white blood cell diseases of bone marrow. 6.5. Knows the diseases which go with splenic involvement. 6.6. Explains the effects of infectious diseases to the tissue according to pathogens
Appreciates inflammatory, benign and malignant diseases of endocrine organs. 8.1. Knows the main benign-malignant lesions of thyroid gland. 8.2. Knows the main benign-malignant lesions of parathyroid gland. 8.3. Knows the main benign-malignant lesions of pituitary gland. 8.4. Knows the main benign-malignant lesions of adrenal gland. 8.5. Describes the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus and its effects on the other organs.
9. Learns about hearth and vascular diseases’ pathogenesis and classification 9.1. Describes the basic features of rheumatic hearth diseases. 9.2. Learns the mechanisms of valvular hearth diseases. 9.3. Learns about cardiomyopathies and inflammatory myocard diseases. 9.4. Describes the pathogenesis of ischemic hearth diseases. 9.5. Learns about basics of sclerotic and inflammatory vascular diseases.
10. Describes the inflammatory and neoplastic processes of respiratory system. 10.1. Defines the benign ve malignant diseases of upper respiratory tract. 10.2. Classifies the obstructive and restrictive diseases of lung. 10.3. Knows about vascular diseases of lung. 10.4. Learns about pathogenesis of common infectious diseases of the lung. 10.5. Classifies the tumors of lung and plevra and explains their morphologic features.
11. Describes the inflammatory and neoplastic processes of gastrointestinal system, liver, bile ducts and pancreas. 11.1. Defines the main features of inflammatory diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small bowel and large bowel. 11.2. Classifies the neoplasies of esophagus, stomach, small and large bowel and defines their moprhologic appearance. 11.3. Appreciates inflammatory diseases of the liver and steps in the development of cirrhosis. 12. Learns about neoplastic diseases of pancreas, liver and bile ducts.
13. Describes the inflammatory and neoplastic processes in female and male urogenital system. 13.1. Classifies the renal glomerular and tubular system diseases and knows their pathogenesis. 13.2. Classifies the inflammatory diseases of vulva, cervix, endometrium and fallopian tube. 13.3. Classifies the neoplastic lesions of vulva, cervix, endometrium and fallopian tube. 13.4. Appreciates the inflammatory diseases of urinary bladder and prostate. 13.5. Classifies the tumors of kidney, urinary bladder, prostate and testis and knows about their morphologic appearance. 13.6. Knows the neoplastic and nonneoplastic lesions of breast.
1. Knows the basics of pathologic processes in central and peripheric nervous system. 2. Knows about the pathogenesis of vascular, infectious, degenerative and demyelinating diseases of central nervous system. 3. Knows the criteria to distinguish the benign and malignant tumors of nervous system.
13.10. Has general knowlege about skin and locomotor system. 13.11. Has knowledge about inflammatory diseases of the skin. 13.12. Defines the morphologic features of main malignant tumors (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma) of the skin. 13.13. Has knowledge about inflammatory diseases of bone and joint. 13.14. Classifies the basic neoplasms of bone and soft tissue.
Apprecites the gross and microscopic features of different organ systems. Observes the casual relationship between basic knowledge of tissues, organs, systems and pathological processes. Discuss the cell response mechanisms and etiology, pathogenesis and morphologic features of diseases.
1. Evaluates the main subjects of pathology and laboratory techniques. 1.1. Defines what pathology is. 1.2. Has general information about etiology, pathogenesis and morphological changes due to the diseases. 1.3. Defines the methodology of pathology laboratory and gives examples. 1.4. Has basic information about how a pathology laboratory processes.
7.1 Explains the pathology of infectious diseases. 7.2. Interprets the mechanisms of how bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites cause disease. 7.3. Classifies the infectious diseases and explains their mechanisms.
