Aim | To provide students with the information regarding how speech sounds are produced and regarding the production of speech sounds in Turkish and other languages of the world and to provide them with the skills to show and produce speech sounds with transcriptions. |
Course Content | This course contains; 1. Week: Phonetic Science, basic concepts,2. Week: Organs taking part in speech and their functions,3. Week: Categorization of speech sounds and their distinctive features,4. Week: Sound inventory of Turkish: consonants and vowels; phonemes,5. Week: Consonants and vowels of Turkish: phonemes,6. Week: Introduction to phonetic analysis: International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA),7. Week: The purpose of using the IPA,8. Week: Consonants in languages of the World,9. Week: Vowels in languages of the World,10. Week: Speech in context: Suprasegmental Features,11. Week: Speech in context: Coarticulation,12. Week: Applications of IPA-Phonetic Transcription,13.
