2024-2025 ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION PROCESSES
1. Utilisation of ASOS (Academic Exam Automation System)
During the 2024-2025 academic year, the ASOS (Academic Exam Automation System) has been actively utilised in our English Preparatory Program to enhance the efficiency of assessment and evaluation processes. Currently, the questions for two mid-term exams of the academic year have been fully uploaded into the system, and analysis reports are awaited. ASOS is anticipated to make significant contributions across all stages, from exam planning to analysis, in addition to ensuring digitalisation and reliability in assessment and evaluation activities.
2. Activities and Stages
2.1 Item Writing and Exam Planning
Before initiating the item writing process, all the objectives and outcomes of the English Preparatory Program had been recognised in the ASOS database. While designing exams, each item is defined in alignment with the relevant objectives and learning outcomes, making it ready for analysis. The subsequent stages proceeded as follows:
- Question Bank: Over 100 questions from previous mid-term exams, aligned with the language skills and learning objectives outlined in our curriculum, have been meticulously entered into the ASOS system by instructors.
2.2 Exam Management and Implementation
- Automated Scheduling: All details related to exams, including dates, durations, and adjustments tailored for specific student groups, were organised via ASOS.
2.3 Result Analysis and Reporting
The items, language skills, learning objectives, and student response sheets from two mid-term exams have been scanned and uploaded into the ASOS system. The data obtained was forwarded to the Center for Learning, Teaching, Assessment, and Evaluation (IMODEM). The timeline for receiving the relevant analyses from IMODEM depends on the center’s workload. Once the initial analyses are received:
- Reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills will be evaluated individually, and the results will be reflected in achievement reports.
- Analyses of item difficulty levels and discrimination indices will be conducted, with detailed reports available through the system.
- The progress of the educational program will be monitored using ASOS' annual reporting features, and necessary improvement recommendations will be formulated.
In light of the results obtained, the objective assessment and evaluation opportunities provided by ASOS will ensure the transparent administration of all exams. The system will also enable the identification of students' individual strengths and weaknesses, thereby supporting their learning processes. ASOS's detailed reporting and analysis features have facilitated compliance with institutional accreditation standards, particularly in aligning achievement analyses with international accreditation requirements.
3. Future Plans
In 2025, the scope of ASOS utilisation will be expanded with the following objectives:
- Development of new rubrics for assessing speaking skills.
- Implementation of automated text analysis features for writing exams.
- Enhancement of individualised reporting for tracking student performance.
4. Conclusion
ASOS has proven to be a critical tool in modernising our assessment and evaluation processes and improving educational quality. The statistical data and flexibility provided by the system have created a more efficient teaching and learning environment for both our students and program.
