Through colors and the screen: An accessible awareness event at Medipol
As part of the December 3 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Istanbul Medipol University’s Office for Students with Disabilities organized the event titled “Through Colors and the Screen: Ebru Workshop & Cinema Day.” Held in collaboration with the Human Rights and Environmental Ethics Club and the Ebru Club, the event offered students a hands-on marbling experience followed by a film screening.

In recognition of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Istanbul Medipol University hosted an art- and awareness-oriented event on campus. Coordinated by Edanur Hira, Head of the Office for Students with Disabilities at Medipol University, “Through Colors and the Screen: Ebru Workshop & Cinema Day” took place at the South Campus. The event, supported by the Human Rights and Environmental Ethics Club and the Ebru Club, attracted strong interest not only from students with disabilities but also from students enrolled in various departments and programs across the university.

THE ART OF "EBRU" EXPLAINED THROUGH HANDS-ON PRACTICE
The first phase of the event, the Ebru Workshop, was held in the B2 Floor Meeting Room. Led by the Secretary General of the Istanbul Medipol University Ebru Club, the workshop began with an introduction to the history of ebru (traditional Turkish marbling), as well as the basic materials used in the art form, including pigments, brushes, and tragacanth gum. Following an explanation of the technical principles and application stages of ebru, participants took part in a hands-on practice session focused particularly on Battal Ebru, one of the traditional marbling techniques.
Under the guidance of the instructor, students with disabilities worked individually at the marbling trays, shaping the dance of colors on water and creating their own unique works of art. The workshop not only supported the development of participants’ manual skills but also fostered social interaction and shared creative experience.

THE EVENT CONCLUDED WITH A FILM SCREENING
Following the workshop, a film screening was held at the South Campus Conference Hall, bringing together students and guests. Organized as an open event with the aim of increasing the participation of persons with disabilities in social life and raising awareness across the campus, the program received highly positive feedback from participants. The day where art and culture intersected concluded with the taking of commemorative photographs.
