Medipol granted “Candidate Research University” status

Istanbul Medipol University has been granted the status of “Candidate Research University” for the first time, following a decision announced by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). The decision was officially announced by YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar during the Research Universities Evaluation Meeting, hosted by Yıldız Technical University. With this decision, Istanbul Medipol University was included for the first time in the group of candidate research universities.

President Prof. Dr. Bahadır Kürşat Güntürk described the university’s inclusion in the list as the result of sustained institutional efforts. Emphasizing that the new status reflects Medipol’s academic trajectory, Güntürk stated:

“This status is a reflection of our university’s investments in the research ecosystem and its academic performance. We will continue with determination to increase scientific output, provide a stronger environment for our researchers, and expand our international collaborations.”

Medipol rises to the 801–1000 band in THE World Rankings

Istanbul Medipol University’s momentum in strengthening its research capacity has also been reflected in international rankings. According to the Times Higher Education (THE)World University Rankings 2026, recently announced, the university is ranked in the 801–1000 band worldwide and 9th in Türkiye.

Having been placed in the 1501+ band last year, Medipol achieved a significant advancement by moving up to the 801–1000 band this year, marking a substantial improvement in its global ranking position.
