Türkiye's first Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence Program opened at Medipol
Istanbul Medipol University has launched Türkiye's first undergraduate Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence program, bringing together the social sciences and artificial intelligence under a single academic framework. The 100% English-medium program aims to educate a new generation of specialists capable of evaluating artificial intelligence technologies from ethical, social, and philosophical perspectives.

Istanbul Medipol University has expanded its innovative educational vision, which brings together the social sciences and advanced technologies, with the launch of Türkiye's first Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence (English) undergraduate program. Established within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the program offers an interdisciplinary educational model that combines the rich intellectual heritage of philosophy with the knowledge and skills required in the age of artificial intelligence.
The program, which will admit its first students in the 2026–2027 academic year, aims to educate graduates with strong critical thinking skills and a high level of ethical awareness, individuals who not only use artificial intelligence technologies but also question, evaluate, and contribute critically to their development.
PHILOSOPHY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE UNDER THE SAME ACADEMIC FRAMEWORK
As artificial intelligence technologies become increasingly influential in every aspect of life, the demand continues to grow for professionals who can evaluate these technologies not only from a technical perspective but also in terms of their human, social, legal, and ethical dimensions. The Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence Program at Istanbul Medipol University aims to respond to this need through a distinctive curriculum that integrates classical philosophical education with contemporary technologies. The program enables students to study both the foundational texts of the history of philosophy and the theoretical and practical aspects of artificial intelligence.
Throughout the program, students study the history of philosophy from Ancient Greece to the present day, as well as ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of science, AI ethics, digital society, and philosophy of technology. They also develop knowledge and skills in data literacy, analytical problem-solving, and the societal impact of artificial intelligence applications. As a result, graduates gain the ability to think critically, develop solutions, and contribute to the advancement of artificial intelligence technologies across a broad spectrum ranging from algorithmic decision-making processes to technology policy.
A 100 PERCENT ENGLISH-MEDIUM PROGRAM
The program is taught entirely in English and has been designed in accordance with international academic standards. Throughout their studies, students have the opportunity to participate in summer schools at leading universities around the world. In addition, successful students are supported through academic experience programs at distinguished universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.
The program also offers courses in Ancient Greek, Latin, and Arabic, enabling students to access the foundational sources of philosophy in their original languages. This provides graduates with a strong academic background for studying classical texts in their authentic form.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES THAT REMOVE BARRIERS TO EDUCATION
All students admitted to the program are eligible to receive 100 percent scholarships.
Students who enroll in the program after ranking within the top 2,000 in the Equal Weight score category of the national university entrance examination (YKS) are eligible to receive a monthly scholarship of TRY 50,000 for seven months each year, in addition to free accommodation, meal support, and free language education abroad.
Students who meet the required academic performance criteria are also eligible to apply for the Aziz Sancar Overseas PhD Scholarship.
EDUCATION WITH LEADING ACADEMICS
The academic structure of the program has been developed with the contributions of nationally and internationally recognized scholars. The academic staff includes distinguished academics such as Prof. Baha Zafer, Prof. Cemil Aydın, and Prof. Georg Northoff, while the Academic Advisory Board includes scholars from internationally respected institutions, including Stanford University and the University of Ottawa.
As a result, students benefit not only from a strong theoretical foundation but also from current research and international academic perspectives.
INTERDISCIPLINARY EDUCATION WITH DIVERSE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Istanbul Medipol University also offers double major and minor opportunities to students enrolled in the program. Students who meet the academic requirements may complete a second program in another discipline, enriching their education and expanding their academic qualifications.
This enables graduates to pursue diverse career opportunities while combining the analytical thinking skills gained through philosophy with disciplines such as technology, law, psychology, communication, and other social sciences.
Graduates of the program can pursue careers at universities, educational institutions, and research centers, as well as technology companies, artificial intelligence ethics committees, public institutions, digital humanities centers, law and technology consultancy firms, media and publishing organizations, data analysis and policy development units, and think tanks.
EDUCATING THE THOUGHT LEADERS OF THE AI ERA
The Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence Program at Istanbul Medipol University aims to educate a new generation of thinkers and specialists capable of developing solutions to the ethical, social, and scientific challenges of the age of artificial intelligence through an educational approach that places human beings at the center of technology.
By bringing together the intellectual tradition of philosophy and artificial intelligence studies within a single academic program, the department stands out as one of Türkiye's pioneering examples of interdisciplinary education in the social sciences.
