Türkiye's first History and Artificial Intelligence Program opened at Medipol


Istanbul Medipol University is taking its innovative educational vision, which combines the social sciences with advanced technologies, one step further through Türkiye's first History and Artificial Intelligence (English) undergraduate program. Established within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the program brings together the strong methodology of the discipline of history with artificial intelligence technologies to educate the digital-age historians of the future.

The program, which will admit its first students in the 2026–2027 academic year, integrates the classical methods of historical research with AI-supported research techniques, providing students with a strong academic foundation in both the social sciences and digital technologies.

The History and Artificial Intelligence Program stands out with its distinctive curriculum, which combines the long-established research tradition of history with the new opportunities created by digital transformation. The program, which admits students through the Equal Weight score category, aims to provide students with strong academic foundations in both historical scholarship and artificial intelligence.

Throughout the program, students receive comprehensive training in the critical analysis of historical sources, digital archive management, data literacy, AI-supported historical modeling, and digital research methods. As a result, graduates are prepared not only to interpret historical knowledge but also to develop new research methodologies using big data analysis and artificial intelligence technologies.

DOUBLE MAJOR OPPORTUNITY WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ENGINEERING
One of the distinguishing features of the program is its interdisciplinary educational approach. Students who meet the academic performance requirements may pursue a double major in Artificial Intelligence Engineering, enabling them to build a strong academic foundation in both the social sciences and engineering.

This allows graduates to specialize in history while gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to integrate data analysis, machine learning, digital content production, and artificial intelligence applications into historical research.

INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
The program is taught entirely in English and provides students with an education that meets international academic standards. In addition to academic English, students receive Arabic language instruction to enable them to study Ottoman and Islamic historical sources in their original language. Successful students may also participate, with university support, in intensive Arabic language programs held in Arabic-speaking countries.

In line with Istanbul Medipol University's international education vision, students also have access to various opportunities to gain academic experience at distinguished universities abroad.

A STRONG ACADEMIC STAFF OF INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED HISTORIANS
The academic staff includes internationally recognized scholars such as Prof. Cemil Aydın, Prof. Mehmet İpşirli, and Prof. Tufan Buzpınar. The Academic Advisory Board includes world-renowned historians such as Prof. Cemal Kafadar of Harvard University and Prof. Şükrü Hanioğlu of Princeton University.

COMPREHENSIVE SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT FOR HIGH-ACHIEVING STUDENTS
All students admitted to the program are eligible to receive 100 percent scholarships.

Students who enroll in the program after ranking within the top 2,000 in the Equal Weight score category of the national university entrance examination (YKS) are eligible to receive a monthly scholarship of TRY 50,000 for seven months each year, in addition to accommodation, meal support, and the opportunity to study abroad for one semester.

Students who rank within the top 500 in the YKS and successfully complete the History and Artificial Intelligenceundergraduate program at Istanbul Medipol University are also eligible for support through the Aziz Sancar PhD Scholarship. Under this program, graduates who pursue a PhD in history at a university ranked among the top 20 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings may receive scholarships of up to USD 40,000 per year for up to five years throughout their doctoral studies.
