Study Abroad Unit
Preparatory Program Abroad
Istanbul Medipol University English Preparatory Program students can complete all or part of the second semester at four universities in the United States or in various countries in Europe.
Who Can Participate?
All students who are actively enrolled in our preparatory program can benefit from this program.
Participation Requirements
A minimum period of 7 weeks must be spent in the relevant universities.
After completing the first semester in Turkey, students can apply to one of the following universities for the second semester.
In order to determine the level of the student, the placement test of the university where the student will study must be taken. For certain universities, the relevant placement test can be taken online in Turkey.
Applications must be submitted 30 to 90 days prior to the program start date.
Students' passports must be current and valid for at least 2 years.
Please refer to the program details of the relevant university for tuition and other fees.

In order to complete the Istanbul Medipol University Preparatory Program, students who obtain a B2 certificate from the exam to be held by the relevant university at the end of the program are considered to have successfully completed their preparatory education in Turkey.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
Thanks to the activities that we plan in line with the Language School’s schedule, you may improve yourself in a variety of skills and make new friends from different departments. Today being interested in different things plays an important role in every part of life. That’s why we have established different clubs to make you benefit from the facilities of Istanbul. You may contact SKS (Health Culture and Sport Department) for other student clubs. You may follow our Instagram account medipoldilokulu to be notified about every event. Here is some information about our student clubs.
1. Speaking Club
You may attend the free speaking sessions by registering with the link we post in our Instagram account every week. We aim to contribute to your speaking skill’s development. It’s not obligatory to join these sessions. Our instructors provide a wide variety of activities related to your lesson plan of the related week to make you feel more comfortable while speaking and improve your fluency. You are seated in a class of your level with an average of 10 students, and you can make new friends from different departments and exchange information. Remember to register for each session you want to join.
2. Recreational Club
We organize events to help you enjoy the most of Istanbul. Some of these events are orienteering, paintball, planetarium, chess tournaments, laser-tag and treasure hunt activities.
3. Social Responsibility Club
Our club offers students meaningful experiences through projects aimed at contributing to society and raising social awareness. We focus on activities such as environmental clean-ups, charity drives, donation events, and community service projects to develop our students' sense of responsibility. With our weekly meetings and regular events, you can make a difference while having fun and contributing to society. Join the Social Responsibility Club, and let’s work together for a better world. We would be delighted to have all students join us!
4. English Drama Club
Our club offers students the opportunity to express themselves and develop their creative skills through performing arts. Drama activities help improve students' English language abilities, boost their confidence, and encourage teamwork. With our weekly rehearsals and end-of-year performances, we provide unforgettable experiences for our students. By joining the English Drama Club, you can have fun and discover new talents. We would be delighted to have all students join us!
5. English Debate Club
English Debate Club offers students the opportunity to enhance their critical thinking, effective communication, and English language skills. Debates help our students improve their ability to express themselves, construct persuasive arguments, and respect opposing viewpoints. Our weekly meetings assist members in developing these skills further. By joining the English Debate Club, you can have fun while learning. We would be delighted to have all students join us!

Language School Students Visited Ataşehir Animal Shelter
We visited Ataşehir Animal Shelter under the leadership of our teachers Özlem Biçici and Burçak Bektaş within the General Coordinatorship of Foreign Languages. We had the opportunity to get to know our friends more closely at the facility where abandoned animals or animals in need of care on the streets are cared for and we were informed about what we can do in this regard. Language School Students Participated in the Laser Tag Event!
The Laser Tag event has been held with the participation of our students. Laser tag is an action-packed team game where players use sensors and laser guns to tag each other. Each player wears a vest with sensors and is equipped with a laser-emitting gun. The objective is to score points by hitting opposing players with the laser beam. The game is usually played in a dark arena filled with obstacles, enhancing the importance of strategy and teamwork. This game, which combines fun and physical activity, appeals to players of all ages. Thank you for joining. See you in the next events!

Language School Students Showed Great Interest in English Speaking Club Classes!
Throughout the academic year, English Speaking Club classes were held every Thursday in person and every Friday online. The sessions saw a high level of participation, with approximately 1000 students taking part. These classes provided students with the opportunity to enhance their English speaking skills, allowing them to speak more fluently and confidently. Additionally, the classes strengthened their communication abilities and facilitated interactions with different cultures. Through group activities and discussions, students also developed critical thinking skills and gained an international perspective.

Language School Students Participated in the Chess Tournament
Our students achieved great success in the chess tournament held within our university. This tournament significantly contributed to the development of their strategic thinking and problem-solving skills. While playing chess, the students enhanced their patience, focus, and planning abilities, as well as strengthened their analytical thinking skills. Mustafa Yusuf Sıngın, who won first place, received his medal from the Director of the Language School, Assist. Prof. Murat Culduz. This award served as a significant source of motivation for our students in both their academic and personal development.

Language School Students Enjoyed Memorable Moments at the Ice Skating Event!
Our students showed great interest in the ice skating event held at Zeytinburnu Ice Island, Europe's largest ice rink. The event not only supported students' physical activities but also enhanced their social interactions. Under the guidance of Lecturer Özlem Biçici, students improved their ice skating skills while fostering teamwork and camaraderie. Participants had the opportunity to form new friendships and experience positive moments throughout the event.

Our Language School Students Organized a Charity Sale to Support Farmers Affected by February 6 Earthquakes!
Our language school students organized a charity bazaar on February 6 to support farmers affected by the earthquakes. With the proceeds from the bazaar, they planted 128 fruit saplings. This event not only provided financial support but also raised awareness about social solidarity and environmental awareness among our students. Their meaningful initiative holds great importance in providing hope and assistance to farmers affected by the earthquakes.

Debate on AI Between National Defense University and Istanbul Medipol University
A debate competition on the topic "Is AI a Threat to Humanity?" was organized between the Language Schools of the National Defense University and Istanbul Medipol University. Hosted by the National Defense University, the event was attended by our Language School Coordinator, Assist. Prof. Murat Culduz, Deputy Coordinator Murat Şahin, event organizers Lecturers Serkan Yar and Burak Bezgal, as well as approximately 1,500 soldiers who supported as audience members.
During the competition, students discussed the potential impacts of artificial intelligence on humanity and the risks associated with this technology in detail. Both teams presented strong arguments, evaluating both the positive and negative aspects of AI. The audience had the opportunity to deeply contemplate the future role of AI and what it could mean for humanity.
At the end of the debate, trees were planted in the earthquake-affected region in honor of the participants. This meaningful event not only contributed to nature but also reinforced the sense of social responsibility. Both participants and audience members shared the satisfaction of having experienced an informative and thought-provoking event.

Language School Students Support Palestinians and LÖSEV with 'I Hate Shakespeare' Play
Our language school students garnered great interest with their performance of "I Hate Shakespeare" at the South Campus. Directed by Lecturers Gökçe Özgen and Murat Güç, organized by Serkan Yar, the play raised funds through ticket sales, providing 10,000 lira in financial support to Palestinians via the Red Crescent. Additionally, through ticket proceeds, they provided a beacon of hope to cancer-stricken children with a donation of 7,900 lira to LÖSEV. This event not only enhanced our students' English language skills but also contributed to their social responsibility awareness. The donations made were of significant societal importance, aiming to provide hope and support to those in need.





Language School Donates 233 Fruit Saplings to Support Farmers in Earthquake-Affected Areas!
This year, the Language School donated a total of 233 fruit saplings through ÇEKÜD in all activities to support farmers in earthquake-affected areas. These saplings cover an area equivalent to 6 acres, contributing to revitalizing agricultural activities in the region and rebuilding livelihoods for farmers. The students and staff of the Language School demonstrated significant solidarity, not only in the field of language education but also through their commitment to social responsibility.
Language School Organizes End-of-Year Dinner and Award Ceremony for Instructors
The Language School organized a spectacular year-end dinner and awards ceremony for instructors at Sabancı Öğretmenevi. Against the backdrop of the Bosphorus and accompanied by beautiful music, instructors gathered for a memorable evening. The first part of the ceremony featured awards in categories such as 'the most fashion icon,' 'the best humorist,' 'best team player,' and ‘the best traveller’, with winners receiving trophies. In the second part, certificates were presented to the top 10 instructors based on performance evaluations throughout the year. This evaluation process has significantly contributed to the personal and professional development of our instructors, helping them identify their strengths and improve their weaknesses. The event also fostered closer relationships among instructors and boosted their motivation.

Aims
Staff Development:
The CPD unit functions in order to deliver facilitate training for instructors in the IMU Language School. In-house training is delivered by members of the CPD unit, with other members of the department delivering peer workshops. Further training is delivered by external specialists who visit the campus at the request of the CPD unit.
Aside from training, the CPD unit encourages instructors to attend outside events and participate in conferences, the details of which are regularly shared with members of the department.
Evaluation:
The CPD unit is also responsible for the evaluation of teachers’ performances and conducts yearly summative observations. In addition to this, new members of the department are offered formative observations.
Teacher Development Initiative (TDI)
The Teacher Development Initiative exists to encourage participation in external CPD activities. The TDI forms part of the annual instructor evaluation, comprising 20% of the overall score. The TDI works on a positive reward system, offering weighted points for each professional development activity that instructors are involved in. Instructors are awarded a maximum of 20 TDI points, but we encourage people to do as many activities as they would like.

Quality and Accreditation Unit
Quality and Accreditation Unit
The Accreditation Office was established in 2017 to manage international accreditation processes and to standardize and maintain all education, in-house professional training and assessment methods and practices within the General Coordination of Foreign Languages, including English language teaching. In pursuit of excellence, the staff of the unit carries out action planning and multifunctional work with all members of the General Coordination of Foreign Languages to improve the international accreditation of programs and the quality of education.
The main tasks of the office include, in addition to conducting international accreditation processes, the creation of roadmaps for program development, learning and teaching practice and the determination of learning outcomes assessment policies.
The office also monitors physical capacity and needs, health and safety trainings, evacuation drills and emergency measures within the scope of international total quality criteria and makes recommendations to the necessary departments.
For regular observation (in-house quality observation), record keeping, revision of processes or other documentation tasks, staff are assigned by the general Coordinator in accordance with their skills and experience when necessary.
Job Description and Duties of the Quality and Accreditation Unit
In line with the vision, mission and objectives of the unit, evaluating and improving the quality of education-training activities and administrative services
- Establishing the unit's internal quality system and ensuring that it is aligned with the university's own quality system,
- To identify institutional indicators and to carry out the work to be carried out in this context,
- To submit these studies for the approval of the General Coordinator, Vice General Coordinator and Unit Supervisors,
- Conducting internal evaluation studies,
- To prepare the annual institutional evaluation report containing the results of institutional evaluation and quality improvement studies,
- To make the necessary preparations for the external evaluation process.
