Midwifery

A midwife is a reliable and responsible professional who provides care for women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period; offers necessary guidance; conducts deliveries under her own responsibility; ensures the care of the newborn; and works in collaboration with women.

The profession of midwifery, which dates back to ancient times, has today taken its place among modern professions with graduate and doctoral-level programs. The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), the World Health Organization (WHO), and UNICEF emphasize that “the world needs more midwives than ever” in order to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates as well as cesarean section rates.

With our department, established in the 2014–2015 academic year, our university aims to educate graduates who are fully equipped, capable of working independently, committed to lifelong learning, and able to elevate the midwifery profession through scientific research, in line with the needs of our country.

The theoretical and practical courses in our program have been designed to help you develop professional midwifery skills starting from the first year. In the delivery rooms of our affiliated hospitals, under the supervision of experienced professionals, we strive to train you in an environment of trust, compassion, and respect, following the traditional master-apprentice approach.

How would you like to relieve the pain of a mother in labor, assist in bringing a new life into the world, and witness the first eye contact between a mother and her newborn baby?

I wish you a fulfilling and successful career in this, one of the oldest and most respected professions in history.

Dr. Asiye KOCATÜRK
Assistant Professor
Head of the Department of Midwifery

Our mission is to educate professional midwives who are equipped with the knowledge and skills to serve in all areas in line with national realities and needs while adhering to universal values; who have internalized the philosophy and ethical principles of midwifery; who embrace lifelong learning; and who possess competencies in education, management, and research.
