Dear Students and Prospective Students,

Midwifery, one of the most long-established health professions in human history, is a respected profession that has retained its importance from the past to the present through its scientific knowledge, ethical values and its human touch. Today, midwifery is a professional health discipline that meets international standards, with education provided at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels, and which is constantly evolving through scientific research.

The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF emphasise that the world needs more qualified midwives than ever before to improve maternal and newborn health, reduce preventable maternal and infant deaths, and promote high-quality antenatal and maternity care. In this regard, midwives are indispensable healthcare professionals in the protection and promotion of women’s health, the provision of safe pregnancy and childbirth services, and the strengthening of family-centred care.

As the Midwifery Department at Istanbul Medipol University, our aim is to train contemporary midwives who are committed to ethical values, embrace scientific thinking, possess strong professional knowledge and skills, adopt lifelong learning as a principle, and are capable of providing high-quality care to women, mothers, newborns and their families.

Our training programme brings together theoretical lectures, practical laboratory sessions, simulation training and clinical placements carried out at our university’s well-equipped hospitals, all within a holistic approach. Under the guidance of experienced academics and clinical mentors, our students develop their professional knowledge, skills and self-confidence, preparing them for their careers.

We are delighted to welcome you as members of the midwifery profession—an indispensable part of healthcare with a rich history and a promising future—and I wish you a future filled with success, happiness and professional development throughout your educational journey.
Best and kind regards,

Dr. İffet GÜLER KAYA

Head of the Department of Midwifery School of Health Sciences
