Sustainability addressed through the “Body–Mind–Spirit” framework
At a symposium organized by İstanbul Medipol University’s SURKAM, sustainable nutrition was examined through the lenses of preventive medicine, environmental responsibility, behavior change, and a holistic health perspective. Academics and experts shared current research and practices concerning the physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of nutrition.

The “Sustainable Nutrition Symposium within the Body–Mind–Spirit Framework,” organized by the Sustainable Development and Twin Transformation Application and Research Center (SURKAM), explored sustainable nutrition in the contexts of health, education, and societal impact. Held at the South Campus Conference Hall, the event approached nutrition as a holistic component of health not only through calorie- and diet-based perspectives, but also by linking it to physical energy, mental resilience, and spiritual well-being.
The symposium welcomed academics, healthcare professionals, and students. Throughout the program, presentations were delivered on topics such as preventive medicine, environmental sustainability, individual nutritional habits, and public awareness. Participants shared insights and research findings on embracing nutrition as a life practice encompassing physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions.
As part of the event, four thematic sessions were conducted: “Nutrition from a Holistic Health Perspective,” “Nutrition from a Biopsychosocial Approach,” “Nutrition and Mental Health,” and “Sustainable Foods.”
Opening remarks were delivered by İbrahim Aydın Altunordu, Founder of the Holistic Healthy Living Platform; Specialist Medical Biologist Beril Koparal; Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Çopur Çiçek, Vice Dean of the İstanbul Medipol University Faculty of Medicine; and Prof. Dr. Rana Atabay Kuşçu, Director of SURKAM.
