Prof. Nur Tunalı Van Den Berg, a faculty member at the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation at the School of Health Sciences of Istanbul Medipol University, made statements to Anadolu Agency. Noting that neck cracking may cause paralysis and permanent nerve damage if done carelessly, Prof. Tunalı Van Den Berg emphasized that such procedures should only be performed by experts who have received physiotherapy training. Prof. Tunalı Van Den Berg added: “The ‘clicking’ sound heard during this procedure is due to the release of gas bubbles caused by the separation of the joint surfaces. However, such procedures should only be performed by specialists trained in physiotherapy. Otherwise, complications such as joint dislocation, ligament rupture, nerve compression, and even paralysis may occur.”
