Assoc. Prof. Başak Gezmen, the Head of the Department of New Media and Communication Systems at the School of Communication, made statements to Anadolu Agency. Stating that social media can create a beneficial environment when used consciously and effectively, Assoc. Prof. Gezmen emphasized that using social media consciously and raising digitally literate individuals should be prioritized before bans in combating harmful effects. Assoc. Prof. Gezmen added: “At this point, families have important duties. Instead of overly oppressive and controlling attitudes, families should understand the platforms that young people are on and the dangers they may encounter on these platforms. They should also raise awareness about the purposeful and controlled use of social media by experiencing these contents themselves. Young people should be encouraged to use technology less and should be directed to sports activities and different socializing environments.”
