At the PolicyTalks’25 event organized by the Politics Club of Istanbul Medipol University, experts in media, politics, and career development met with students. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mehmet Kemal Bozay spoke at the event, saying: “Becoming a diplomat requires more than just a political science degree. It also calls for a broad cultural background in fine arts and literature, and an understanding of the world.”

The “PolicyTalks’25” event, organized by Istanbul Medipol University’s Politics Club with the support of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, took place at the South Campus Conference Hall.
Mehmet Kemal Bozay, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, also attended the event, which featured three sessions under the title “Media”, “Career”, and “Academy”. The program covered many topics, including press-politics relations, public diplomacy, state reason, and Middle East policies, with experts in the field participating. The first session themed “Press, Politics, Freedom”, moderated by Prof. Bekir Berat Özdemir, Head of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Istanbul Medipol University, Assoc. Prof. Turgay Yerlikaya, a Faculty Member at the Department of Public Relations and Publicity at Istanbul University, and Ömer Faruk Görçin, Fact-Checking Editor at Anadolu Agency, were speakers.
In the second session titled “Starting a Career in Public Sector and Diplomacy: A Roadmap for the New Generation”, moderated by Prof. Ömer Faruk Gençkaya from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mehmet Kemal Bozay presented career perspectives to young people. In the next session “Bureaucracy, Reason of State, Middle East”, moderated by Prof. Ahmet Demirel of the School Humanities and Social Sciences at Istanbul Medipol University, Prof. Mehmet İpşirli from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Istanbul Medipol University and Dr. Hazar Vural from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of Istanbul Aydin University shared their academic perspectives.
BOZAY: DIPLOMACY REQUIRES EXPERIENCE AND DISCIPLINE
In the second session of the event, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mehmet Kemal Bozay emphasized that a career in diplomacy requires a well-rounded preparation and gave valuable career planning advice to students interested in foreign affairs and said: “Becoming a diplomat requires more than just a political science degree. It also calls for a broad cultural background in fine arts and literature, and an understanding of the world.” He added that translating English articles in the morning is an effective method to increase intellectual accumulation.
BOZAY: TÜRKİYE IS INDISPENSABLE TO EUROPEAN SECURITY
Bozay emphasized that the power of expression is decisive in professional life and stated that using simple, concise language makes a difference. He said: “The person reading a text should be able to understand what you want to say without you having to say anything. It is important to be clear about what you say, not to explain it in long sentences.” Bozay also commented on the foreign policy agenda, emphasizing that “Türkiye is indispensable to European security”. At the end of his speech, Bozay stated that self-confidence combined with knowledge will result in effective representation and added: “When an American or Iranian appears before you, you should be prepared to represent your country with sagacity.”
