Message from the Head of Department
Nutrition and Dietetics is a scientific discipline that investigates the effects of nutrients on human health, plays a role in the prevention and treatment of diseases, and aims to promote awareness of adequate and balanced nutrition within society through research and practice in this field.
In the first phase of our students’ four-year educational program, courses in basic medical sciences are offered. In the second phase, the curriculum includes subjects such as principles of nutrition, food chemistry, nutritional biochemistry, food and beverage systems management, nutrition during adulthood and childhood, nutrition in special conditions, and community nutrition. In addition to classroom-based theoretical instruction and laboratory practices, students reinforce their knowledge through term projects, community health internships, and on-the-job training conducted in collaboration with industry and the university.
Regarding internship and employment opportunities, our students complete clinical internships in adult and pediatric hospitals, institutional internships in organizations providing food and beverage services (such as catering companies, schools, and public institutions), as well as elective internships in private, university, and public hospitals. Students who successfully complete the academic program are awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and earn the professional title of “Dietitian.”
Graduates holding the title of Dietitian may work in a wide range of fields, including healthcare institutions, food service organizations, community health services, weight management centers, the food industry, research centers, and both formal and non-formal educational institutions. The aim of our department is to educate competent individuals in the field of nutrition and health who are inquisitive, capable of developing projects, committed to ethical values, and able to follow innovations and rapidly advancing technologies. In line with these objectives, our graduates are highly preferred professionals in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics.
