Assoc. Prof. Gezmen: Protection steps are being taken for users under the age of 16
Assoc. Prof. Başak Gezmen from the School of Communication made statements to Anadolu Agency about measures restricting children’s use of social media.

Assoc. Prof. Başak Gezmen, Head of the Department of New Media and Communication Systems at Istanbul Medipol University’s School of Communication, made statements to Anadolu Agency. She said that research is being conducted in many countries regarding the use of social media by children under the age of 16. Emphasizing that relevant research is also continuing in Türkiye, Assoc. Prof. Gezmen said: “As of November 28, 2024, a bill that bans social media access for children under the age of 16 was passed in Australia. According to the law, global social media platforms are required to make new regulations regarding the access ban for children under the age of 16. Otherwise, social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, will have to pay fines. According to recent statements from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure in Türkiye, studies on this subject are continuing in cooperation with the relevant ministries.”
