| Aim | The objective of this course is to enable students to evaluate digital images from aesthetic and communicative perspectives and to produce original works using basic graphic design principles. The course helps students develop their skills in composition, color, typography, and visual storytelling. Students learn to adapt the works they create using digital design tools to suit their intended purpose and publication medium. |
| Course Content | This course contains; Introduction to digital aesthetics and graphic design. Aesthetic taste, visual communication, and the function of design. Evaluation of examples selected from digital media in terms of their message, appearance, and intended use.,Basic design elements and principles. Point, line, shape, texture, and space. Balance, contrast, emphasis, rhythm, and unity. Composition exercises using simple geometric shapes.,Introduction to the digital design environment. Vector and raster images, resolution, and file formats. The Adobe Illustrator interface, artboards, basic shapes, selection tools, and layers.,Vector drawing applications. Pen tool, anchor points, lines, and curves. Combining, aligning, and arranging shapes. Drawing simple objects and pictograms.,Color and visual impact. Color harmonies, contrast, creating color palettes, and color relationships in design. Reimagining the same composition with different color palettes.,Typography and visual hierarchy. Font selection, readability, character and line spacing, text layout. The relationship between headings and body text. A design project with an emphasis on typography.,Poster design. Defining the communication objective, creating sketches, establishing a focal point, and establishing the relationship between text and visuals. Designing a poster for a specific event.,Visual style and digital aesthetics. An examination of examples of minimalist, retro, and collage-based design. A reinterpretation of the poster created last week using a different visual style, and a comparison of the works.,Logo and visual identity. The relationship between symbol, typography, and color. Using the logo in different sizes. A simple logo design for a fictional brand or student group, including the selection of colors and typefaces.,Digital collage and visual storytelling.
