What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy is a client-centred health profession concerned with promoting health and well being through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life through the therapeutic use of activities. Occupational therapists achieve this outcome by working with people and communities to enhance their ability to engage in the occupations they want to, need to, or are expected to do, or by modifying the occupation or the environment to better support their occupational engagement). Unlike other professions, occupational therapy helps people function in all of their environments (e.g., home, work, school, community) and addresses the physical, psychological, and cognitive aspects of their well-being through engagement in occupation. Equipped with a solid grounding in both the medical and social sciences, occupational therapists work with people of all ages across the entire lifespan, from newborn infants to elders in hospice care.
Occupational therapy services typically include:
- An individualized evaluation.
- Determination of the person’s goal with the client, family, and occupational therapist.
- Customized intervention to improve the person’s ability to perform daily activities and reach the goals.
- An outcomes evaluation to ensure that the goals are being met and/or to modify the intervention plan based on the patient’s needs and skills.
Occupational therapists provide interventions in varied settings, including schools, hospitals, homeless shelters, nursing facilities, community clinics, private practices, corporations, executive health centers and wellness resorts. With the emerging autism epidemic, and an aging population, demand for occupational therapists will continue to be strong, now and into the foreseeable future. As a prospective occupational therapist, you will find a focus that fits your passion, from ergonomics, to rehabilitation, to wellness.

Office of the Rector

When knowledge and communication come together, they enhance people’s ability to design and manage their future. Being prepared for the future requires being planned and consistent from today. One of the indispensable elements of the modern understanding of quality management, “vision,” defines the expectations of institutions or individuals regarding the future and represents a significant ideal they aspire to achieve.
The vision of Istanbul Medipol University is to become a university that is recognized as exemplary both in our country and around the world through its excellence in education and training, its determination to cultivate well-equipped individuals who aspire to build the future of society, its highly qualified academic staff, and its contemporary infrastructure.
Our University aims to offer our students — and indirectly the society in which we live — an education that designs a better future. The development achieved within a limited period of time is a reflection of our success in being an institution that researches together, learns together, and teaches together with our strong academic staff and students who enrich us with their diversity. The efforts we carry out in line with our mission have begun to bear fruit. Despite our relatively short history in terms of university life, we take pride in our rapidly developing campus environment, our achievements in education and research, our academics who have been honored with national and international awards, and our graduates who serve in various levels of professional life.
Being a member of the Medipol community means internalizing continuous change and development, thinking independently, adapting to working across different disciplines, and aspiring to solve challenging problems.
It means focusing on innovative research and competitive advancement with the ambition of shaping the future. In short, it means preparing for tomorrow.
