Prof. Teker: AI users will gain the upper hand

02.12.2025

At a meeting organized by SASPAM at Istanbul Medipol University, Prof. Dr. Bahri Teker delivered a training session on artificial intelligence tools for academics. Highlighting that applications such as Gemini Pro and NotebookLM enhance reliability in academic work, Teker evaluated how artificial intelligence is set to transform the future of professions.

SASPAM

At the 13th meeting of the Health Policy Workshop organized by the Center for Health Systems and Policies Practice and Research (SASPAM), Prof. Dr. Bahri Teker, Faculty Member at Istanbul Medipol University Faculty of Medicine, delivered a presentation titled “Information Session on Free Gemini Pro Subscription and NotebookLM Training for Academics.” In his presentation, Teker shared hands-on insights into Google’s next-generation artificial intelligence tools and their integration into academic processes.

NOTEBOOKLM AS A KNOWLEDGE ASSISTANT IN ACADEMIC STUDIES
During the event held at the South Campus, Prof. Dr. Teker introduced NotebookLM, describing it as a “personal knowledge assistant” for academics. He noted that the system is capable of analyzing PDFs, articles, audio, and video files, emphasizing that its most critical feature is “grounding.” Teker stated:

“Its most valuable feature is grounding; it generates responses strictly based on the sources you provide, without going beyond them. This significantly reduces the risk of hallucinations and enhances reliability in academic studies.”

He also explained that, through its Audio Overview feature, the application can transform complex sources into a podcast-style dialogue between two speakers, thereby enriching learning processes.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PROMPT ENGINEERING FOR ACCURATE OUTPUT
Addressing the features of Gemini Pro (Advanced), Prof. Dr. Teker emphasized that obtaining efficient and accurate results from artificial intelligence depends largely on prompt engineering. He noted that providing clear instructions and defining appropriate roles for the AI are essential for observing the desired outcomes. Teker explained:

“To obtain a high-quality output, you need to assign a role to the AI—or even better, ask the AI to guide you. In this way, it asks who the target audience is and what the appropriate level should be, enabling much more precise results.”

PROF. TEKER: THOSE WHO USE AI WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
In his closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Teker underlined that artificial intelligence will not eliminate the human factor but will fundamentally transform the way work is carried out. Responding to the question, “Will artificial intelligence replace humans?” he concluded with the following statement:

“The answer is clear: artificial intelligence will not replace humans, but a person who effectively uses artificial intelligence will replace one who does not. If a human resources specialist or an engineer integrates AI into their workflows, they will create a significant advantage over those who do not. For this reason, mastering these tools is of critical importance for your future.”
