Dr. İlhan: Tooth decay rate is alarmingly high
Dr. Duygu İlhan from the School of Dentistry made a statement to Anadolu Agency, drawing attention to the effects of oral and dental health on general health.

Dr. Duygu İlhan, a faculty member of the School of Dentistry at Istanbul Medipol University, said in a statement to Anadolu Agency as part of the “Community Oral and Dental Health Week” that the rates of tooth decay in children and adults are quite high. Sharing the data published by the World Health Organization in 2022, Dr. İlhan said: “When we examine the results from Türkiye, we see that the frequency of untreated decay in primary teeth in children aged 1-9 constitutes 43.8 percent of the population. Similarly, when we look at the frequency of untreated decay in permanent teeth over the age of 5, it is 38.6 percent. These figures reveal the alarming picture of the frequency of tooth decay in Türkiye.”
