The Department of Political Science and Public Administration crowned its 10th anniversary with a symposium

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Istanbul Medipol University crowned its 10th anniversary with a symposium where the subjects of “Constitution”, “Parliament”, and “Public Administration” were discussed.

Istanbul Medipol University Department of Political Science and Public Administration organized a symposium to celebrate its 10th anniversary, addressing important issues, such as “Constitution”, “Parliament”, and “Public Administration”. The event, which took place at the South Campus Conference Hall, was attended by many students and academics who are experts in their fields. The opening speeches of the two-day symposium were made by the Vice-President of Istanbul Medipol University Prof. Recep Öztürk, the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Gökhan Malkoç, and the Head of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration Prof. Bekir Berat Özipek. The keynote speech of the symposium was delivered by Constitutional Court Member Prof. Yusuf Şevki Hakyemez.

PROF. ÖZİPEK: IT IS POSSIBLE TO TRANSCEND BORDERS WITH UNIVERSITIES    
In his opening speech, Prof. Bekir Berat Özipek emphasized that universities offer academic environments where diversity, pluralism, and freedom prevail. Prof. Özipek stated that universities make it possible to transcend borders and expressed his great pleasure in celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration in line with this understanding. He also stated that the symposium addresses important issues, such as justice, law, the constitution, and the changing meaning of public administration. Prof. Özipek emphasized that the theme of “transcending borders” is at the intersection of these issues and said that discussions on public administration and politics would be conducted with this perspective.

PROF. ÖZTÜRK: UNIVERSITIES SHOULD BE REPRESENTATIVES OF PLURALISM AND FREEDOM  
Istanbul Medipol University Vice-President Prof. Recep Öztürk emphasized in his opening speech that Istanbul Medipol University continues its education and research activities with an ethical, human-oriented, and liberal approach. Stating that the university has a strong academic structure not only in medicine and health sciences but also in the field of social sciences, Vice-President Öztürk reminded that many faculties, schools, and programs have successfully passed international accreditation processes. By emphasizing that Istanbul Medipol University received a five-year full accreditation from the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC), he added: “Our goal is to become a university that provides world-class education by making all our programs compliant with international standards.” Stating that the Department of Political Science and Public Administration offers an education based on universal values, such as human rights, democracy, and law, Vice-President Öztürk said that they attach great importance to developing students’ critical thinking skills in these areas.
