| Aim | The aim of this course is to equip nursing students with the knowledge, skills and professional attitudes required to protect and promote workers’ health in various occupational settings. The course emphasizes prevention of occupational risks, management of work-related health problems and the nurse’s role in promoting a safe and healthy workplace environment. By integrating theory with practice, students will be prepared to function as competent members of multidisciplinary occupational health teams, capable of applying evidence-based strategies and adhering to legal and ethical standards. |
| Course Content | This course contains; Introduction: Overview of Occupational Health Nursing; scope, roles, and responsibilities; course requirements,Legal framework and occupational health policies: International standards (ILO, WHO) & Turkish legislation,Physical hazards (noise, vibration, radiation, temperature); assessment and control measures,Chemical hazards: exposure, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), prevention strategies,Biological hazards and infection control; vaccination and surveillance for healthcare workers,Ergonomics: musculoskeletal risks, posture, safe lifting, workplace design,Psychosocial hazards: stress, burnout, psychological safety, workplace bullying,Occupational accidents and diseases: definitions, surveillance, investigation, and reporting,Preventive and promotive practices: health screenings, education and risk communication,Principles of occupational health and safety practices (pre-employment examination, health education, counseling),Principles and Initiatives of Workplace Health Promotion,Workplace Health Promotion Programs (health-promoting workplaces),Multidisciplinary teamwork in occupational health; workplace inspection exercises and case discussions,Evidence Based Practices - Evaluation of the course. |
