About the Department

/mikroobiyoloji

The molecular structure and proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms that cause infectious diseases, the illnesses they induce in hosts, and the diagnosis and treatment of these microorganisms are the primary research areas of Medical Microbiology. The Department of Microbiology at Istanbul Medipol University consists of faculty members who specialize in the sub-disciplines of microbiology and clinical infectious diseases, conducting scientific research in these fields.

Key projects currently carried out in the department focus on the human microbiota and host-microbe interactions, antibiotic-resistant nosocomial bacteria, certain viral pathogens, and the relationship between the immune system and cancer. For our master’s and doctoral students, we aim to provide a comprehensive education by offering theoretical and practical courses on medical microbiology and the immune system, alongside elective courses from other basic science departments. Our goal is to enable students to successfully complete these courses and develop thesis topics based on ongoing research projects.
