Students from the English Preparatory School under the General Coordination of Foreign Languages at Istanbul Medipol University took to the stage with The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon (Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale Marathon). Performed at the South Campus Conference Hall, the production reinterpreted the classic fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm through a high-energy comedic format while combining the students’ English-language performance skills with remarkable stage presence.

Subverting conventional fairy tale storytelling, the play brought together familiar characters such as Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, and Snow White within the same theatrical universe through a series of unexpected encounters. Through their performances in multiple roles, the students not only demonstrated fluent English proficiency but also attracted attention with their confidence on stage. Receiving enthusiastic praise from the audience, the cast was rewarded with a standing ovation.

ŞAHİN: THERE IS TREMENDOUS EFFORT BEHIND WHAT THE AUDIENCE SEES ON STAGE
Delivering the closing remarks following the performance, Assist. Prof. Murat Şahin, Deputy Director of the General Coordination of Foreign Languages at Istanbul Medipol University, drew attention to the extensive effort invested in the theatrical production.

Şahin stated:

“Once again, we have witnessed a truly wonderful production this year. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this process, especially Serkan Yar, the coordinator of our student clubs. However, it is particularly thanks to the extraordinary efforts and dedication of Gökçe and Murat that we are able to enjoy such outstanding productions year after year.”

Şahin noted that the General Coordination of Foreign Languages constitutes a large family of approximately 150 to 160 individuals and emphasized that student club activities represent one of the most visible reflections of this collective effort. He stated that both students and instructors continue to raise expectations each year through their achievements and added that this year’s production exceeded even his own expectations.

TICKET PROCEEDS TO BE DONATED TO STUDENTS IN NEED
In addition to its artistic success, the performance also gained significance through its social responsibility dimension. It was announced that all proceeds generated from ticket sales would be donated to students in need.

While The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon enabled students to showcase their English-language performance skills on stage, it also highlighted the spirit of solidarity and mutual support. The production’s dynamic pace, humorous language, and rapid character transitions kept audience members fully engaged until the final scene. Frequent laughter and applause filled the hall, while the students’ stage chemistry and English-language performances received widespread acclaim.
