Medipol achieves a first in Türkiye with the successful testing of the DAB+ ASA system
With the contributions of Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kemal Özdemir, Faculty Member at Istanbul Medipol University, and students from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, the development and testing process of the DAB+ ASA (Automatic Safety Alert) system implemented in Türkiye for the first time has been successfully completed.

Under the academic leadership of Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kemal Özdemir, Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence Engineering at Istanbul Medipol University, and with the contributions of fourth-year students Hakan Sabuniş and Yusuf Ünlü from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, the development and testing of the DAB+ ASA (Automatic Safety Alert) system, implemented for the first time in Türkiye, were carried out successfully.

The demonstration test of this advanced technology, which to date has been tested in Europe only in Germany, was conducted at the Çamlıca Television Tower. During the testing process, all components of the system were fully operated, and its performance under emergency scenarios was successfully observed.
Designed to strengthen urban communication during disasters and emergency situations, the DAB+ ASA system stands out with its capacity to enhance public safety. Thanks to its regional targeting capability, the system can simultaneously transmit different audio and visual alert messages to various districts within the boundaries of a province. This feature enables faster, more accurate, and localized dissemination of information to the public during emergencies.

With its high availability and rapid transmission capabilities, the DAB+ ASA system offers a critical solution for early warning and public information, particularly in the event of disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and fires. The system also draws attention with its integrable structure, allowing it to be incorporated into existing emergency communication infrastructures.
This study, conducted through the collaboration of faculty members and students at Istanbul Medipol University, once again demonstrates the university’s technological production capacity in applied engineering and its research and development approach focused on societal benefit.
