Special event for ‘Pi Number’ from the Mathematics Teaching Club

The event titled “Pi Number from the First Civilizations to the Present” was organized by Istanbul Medipol University Mathematics Teaching Club. Assoc. Prof. Nurettin Cenk Turgay from Istanbul Technical University Department of Mathematics Engineering was a guest at the event, which was held at the South Campus. Assoc. Prof. Turgay explained to the participants how the number Pi has been calculated throughout history and its place in modern mathematics. Emphasizing that mathematics is not just about formulas and that its historical development is of great importance to humanity, Assoc. Prof. Turgay said: “The number Pi is a very important tool that we use to solve mathematical problems. Since the first civilizations, scientists have been trying to calculate this number more precisely and today, with the development of technology, it can be calculated up to billions of digits.” The event ended with the presentation of plaques.”
