The study, in which Istanbul Medipol University faculty members Prof. Hasan Dinçer, Prof. Serhat Yüksel, Assoc. Prof. Serkan Eti, and Assist. Prof. Gabriela Oana Olaru took part, was published in the journal Information Sciences.

The study titled “Integrated information system based on Q-learning algorithm and multi-objective particle swarm optimization with molecular fuzzy-based decision-making for corporate environmental investments”, in which Istanbul Medipol University Faculty of Business and Management Sciences faculty members Prof. Hasan Dinçer and Prof. Serhat Yüksel, the Vocational School Director Assoc. Prof. Serkan Eti, and the School of Communication faculty member Dr. Gabriela Oana Olaru took part, was published in the journal Information Sciences. A total of four authors took part in the study published in Information Sciences, which has an impact factor of 14. The importance of geothermal energy was emphasized in the study, which determined appropriate strategies for corporate environmental performance through renewable energy investments. In the study, molecular fuzzy sets were developed for the analysis of uncertainty in the analysis process, while the Q-learning algorithm was used to obtain expert balanced evaluation. Additionally, while the fuzzy cognitive mapping technique was used to calculate the weights of the criteria, renewable energy projects were evaluated with the MORAN method.
ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE COMES TO THE FORE IN RENEWABLE ENERGY
Prof. Serhat Yüksel, who stated that some factors need to be improved in order to increase environmental performance in renewable energy projects, said that carbon emission efficiency is quite effective on the environmental performance of renewable energy projects. Prof. Yüksel, who noted that efficient systems that reduce carbon emissions also allow for the reduction of energy production costs, said: “The results of the literature review showed that environmental performance plays a critical role in the development of renewable energy projects. Therefore, companies should take appropriate actions to improve performance in environmental issues. The analysis results showed that the expansion of energy capacity is the most important factor in improving the environmental performance of enterprises. In addition, return on investment is another factor that plays an important role in increasing environmental performance. Also, geothermal and hydroelectric were found to be the most successful renewable energy project types in terms of improving environmental performance.”
A NEW METHOD HAS BEEN DEVELOPED
Prof. Hasan Dinçer stated that they aimed to increase the corporate environmental performance of renewable energy investments by creating a new fuzzy decision-making model in the study. Prof. Dinçer, who also emphasized the contribution of the study to the literature, said: “In the model, Fuzzy Cognitive Maps and MORAN techniques were integrated with the normalization of molecular geometric shapes into fuzzy number sets. Thus, comparison of analysis results with different normalization values was provided. One of the biggest contributions of this study to the literature is the integration of molecular geometric shapes into fuzzy set theory. With this new method, it will be possible to test the validity and consistency of the results. This method will contribute to reaching more accurate results in studies.”
