In her opening speech, Prof. Gülden Omurtag, Dean of the School of Pharmacy at Istanbul Medipol University and Chair of the GEP’24 Advisory Board, emphasized that the new generation of pharmacy requires a multifaceted skill set. Noting that new generation pharmacy is possible not only with knowledge, but also with individuals equipped with vision, empathy, and technology, Prof. Omurtag said: “You are not only pharmacist candidates, but also individuals who will shape the future of the profession.” Referring to the World Health Organization’s definition of a “9-star pharmacist”, Prof. Omurtag noted the many roles pharmacists play. She said: “We, pharmacists, provide not only medicine to our customers, but also morale and support. Therefore, we should also have the positive effect defined as the ‘10th star’. Pharmacy is an indispensable part of healthcare. In this era when technology is developing and individual health approaches are gaining importance, we should invest in our professional and personal development.
