Medipol’s sustainability initiatives highlighted at the Yeşil Beykoz Festival

Participating in the Yeşil Beykoz Festival, Istanbul Medipol University showcased its initiatives in the fields of zero waste, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Among the projects presented, the Zero Waste Mobile Park Project implemented in collaboration with the university’s stakeholders, stood out as a model initiative in environmental education.

Organized in Beykoz as part of Zero Waste Week, celebrated annually between 1 and 7 June, the Environmental Walk and Yeşil Beykoz Festival delivered important messages regarding environmental awareness and sustainable living. Held through the cooperation of the Beykoz District Governor’s Office and Beykoz Municipality, the event featured Istanbul Medipol University’s environmentally focused projects and initiatives. 

MEDIPOL TOOK ITS PLACE AT THE FESTIVAL WITH ITS ZERO WASTE INITIATIVES
The environmental walk, which commenced in front of the Yalı Library, one of Beykoz’s landmark locations, was attended by Beykoz District Governor Dr. Fatih Ürkmezer, Deputy Mayor of Beykoz Özlem Vural Gürzel, Istanbul Provincial Director of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Maliki Ejder Batur, Secretary General of Istanbul Medipol University Assoc. Prof. Abdurrahman Çetin,Environment and Energy Management Office Director Ali Şenbahçe, Office Coordinator Enes Özdemir, representatives of public institutions, students, teachers, non-governmental organizations, and local residents.
 


Accompanied by environmentally themed banners and placards, the walk concluded at the Beykoz Municipality Coastal Events Area. Throughout the event, awareness messages were delivered regarding the protection of natural resources, recycling, and sustainable living.

ASSOC. PROF. ÇETİN: SUSTAINABILITY IS AMONG OUR UNIVERSITY’S CORE PRIORITIES
Speaking at the event, Secretary General of Istanbul Medipol University Assoc. Prof. Abdurrahman Çetin emphasized the importance of promoting environmental awareness throughout all segments of society and stated that the university remains firmly committed to its sustainability initiatives.
 


Çetin remarked:
“As Istanbul Medipol University, we regard educating environmentally conscious generations not only as an academic responsibility but also as a social obligation. We carry out sustainability-focused initiatives across a wide range of areas, including zero waste practices, energy efficiency projects, environmental education programmes, and social responsibility activities.”

Referring to the significance of the Zero Waste Mobile Park Project, implemented jointly with the Beykoz District Governor’s Office and Beykoz Municipality, Çetin stated:

“This project, which contributes to the practical development of environmental awareness among children and young people, demonstrates the power of inter-institutional cooperation in fostering environmental consciousness. We will continue working together with all our stakeholders to leave a more liveable world for future generations.”

ZERO WASTE MOBILE PARK PROJECT WAS RECOGNISED AS A MODEL INITIATIVE
During the programme held as part of the festival, Beykoz District Governor Dr. Fatih Ürkmezer highlighted the importance of instilling environmental awareness from an early age. Ürkmezer described the Zero Waste Mobile Park Project, implemented through the collaboration of the Beykoz District Governor’s Office, Beykoz Municipality, and Istanbul Medipol University, as an exemplary initiative in the field of environmental education.
 


District Governor Ürkmezer stated:
“Through this project, our children have the opportunity to learn environmental awareness not only through theoretical knowledge but also through practical experience. Collaborative efforts between local administrations and universities are of great importance in achieving sustainable environmental goals.”

ENVIRONMENTAL AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT OFFICE PRESENTED ITS INITIATIVES
At the exhibition stands established throughout the festival grounds, visitors were introduced to various environmental projects and recycling practices. The Environmental and Energy Management Office of Istanbul Medipol University also shared its initiatives in the fields of sustainability, energy efficiency, and zero waste with participants.

Projects carried out in line with the university’s environmental sustainability objectives attracted considerable interest from visitors, while initiatives aimed at increasing environmental awareness among young people received particular attention.

CONTRIBUTING TO ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE
One of the most notable attractions of the festival was the environmental fashion show, during which students presented designs created from recyclable materials. Outfits produced from plastic bottle caps, cardboard, old newspapers, and discarded fabrics were showcased as successful examples of promoting the zero waste philosophy among younger generations.

In addition, awards were presented by protocol members to students and schools that achieved distinction in environmental and zero waste-themed competitions organized throughout the district.

COLLABORATING FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Istanbul Medipol University continues to advance its environmental and sustainability initiatives in cooperation with public institutions and local administrations. Through projects aimed particularly at fostering environmental awareness among younger generations and promoting a culture of zero waste, the university seeks to contribute to broader social awareness and sustainable development.

The Green Beykoz Festival, which continued with workshops and various environmental activities, concluded after delivering strong messages in support of environmentally responsible living.
