“Family in the Context of Social and Digital Realities” panel was held

Faculty of Communication at Istanbul Medipol University organized a panel titled “Family in the Context of Social and Digital Realities.” The event addressed the transformative effects of digitalization on the family institution, the increasing prevalence of cyberbullying, the governance of algorithms, and issues of loneliness from both academic and public administration perspectives.

The panel was held at the South Campus Conference Hall and was organized within the framework of the “2025 Year of the Family” declared by the Presidency. It aimed to contribute academically to the “Family and Population Decade (2026–2035)” vision. The event brought together academics, representatives of public institutions, and students. Discussions focused on combating addictions, which are considered among the most significant challenges of the digital age, as well as cyberbullying, emerging family structures, and children’s use of information technologies. 

The event opened with speeches by Deputy Minister of Family and Social Services Dr. Sevim Sayım Madak, Istanbul Medipol University President Prof. Dr. Bahadır Kürşat Güntürk, and Dean of the Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Ali Büyükaslan. The panel attracted strong interest and broad participation. 

The panel session was moderated by journalist Betül Soysal Bozdoğan. Speakers included Afyonkarahisar Governor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı, President of Eskişehir Anadolu University Prof. Dr. Yusuf Adıgüzel, Advisor to the Ministry of National Education Dr. Necdet Subaşı, President of Yeşilay Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Dinç, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cenk Beyaz, a faculty member at Istanbul Medeniyet University. Experts shared important warnings with parents regarding the risks posed by the digital environment.
