Barkçin: What gives the West its strength is the perception of non-Western societies

The event titled “Real West” was organized by the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Istanbul Medipol University. It was moderated by Dr. Ergün Dilaveroğlu from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration and featured author Savaş Şafak Barkçin. Speaking at the event held at the South Campus Conference Hall, Barkçin emphasized that interest in and excessive admiration for the West often stems from a negative view of ourselves. Stating that this view has become a social tendency today, Barkçin concluded his words as follows: “Our view of Europe reflects our view of ourselves. The West is more than a problem for us, it is an obsession, and few people truly understand or explain the West. For this reason, many people are fooled by the hypocrisy of the West. What gives the West its strength is the perception of non-Western societies.”
