Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Pharmaceutical Sciences
Pharmaceutical Sciences, in brief, refers to the chemistry of pharmacy and is one of the fundamental disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences. It encompasses the design and synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) molecules, the investigation of chemical structure–pharmacological activity relationships in biological systems, as well as the study of their metabolism and excretion processes.
The qualitative and quantitative analysis of active pharmaceutical ingredients—whether obtained from natural or synthetic sources and formulated into dosage forms—also falls within the scope of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Research Areas
- Investigation of drug–enzyme interactions and the design of chemical structures accordingly
- Development of new derivatives based on known drug molecules
- Development of synthesis procedures for active pharmaceutical ingredient molecules
- Examination of the relationships between chemical structure and pharmacological/toxic effects
- Research on chemical structure–metabolism relationships
- Qualitative and quantitative analysis of active pharmaceutical ingredients using chemical and spectroscopic methods
