Midwifery (Thesis)

Midwifery is one of the oldest professions in the world. Since the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye, midwives have served throughout the country, including its most remote regions, providing essential healthcare services in a wide range of settings.
Healthcare reforms, together with rapid advances in science and technology, have brought about significant changes in society's healthcare needs. Accordingly, the midwifery profession requires well-qualified practitioners who are capable of conducting scientific research, accessing, evaluating, and interpreting evidence, and applying scientific knowledge to professional practice. The professional advancement of midwives is achieved through postgraduate education. Undergraduate education in midwifery was introduced in Türkiye in 1996. Since then, undergraduate, master's, and doctoral education in midwifery has expanded; however, this progress has unfortunately not yet reached the desired level.
Today, the professional title of Specialist Midwife is awarded only to midwives who have successfully completed a thesis or non-thesis master's program in the field of midwifery. Through the Master's Program with Thesis offered by Istanbul Medipol University, our primary objective is to contribute to the development of the academic workforce required by undergraduate midwifery programs across Türkiye. In addition, the Master's Program without Thesis aims to educate midwives who are capable of providing high-quality, evidence-based care in the areas of pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and neonatal health, while equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to integrate evidence-based practice into clinical care.
Through the Master's Programs in Midwifery at Istanbul Medipol University, we are committed to educating highly qualified midwives who possess advanced scientific knowledge, demonstrate excellence in professional practice, and contribute to ensuring that future generations begin life in the healthiest possible way.
