Nurses week celebrated with a vision of sustainability and digital transformation
At the “Nursing Week Symposium 2026: Nursing Shaping the Future From Sustainability to Digital Transformation”held at Istanbul Medipol University, the future of the nursing profession was explored through the lenses of sustainability, the climate crisis, digital health, and artificial intelligence. The symposium, which brought together leading experts and our future nurses—our students—highlighted the indispensable role of nurses within healthcare systems and their strategic position in the care models of the future.

The Department of Nursing within the School of Health Sciences at Istanbul Medipol University organized the symposium “Nursing Shaping the Future: From Sustainability to Digital Transformation” as part of Nursing Week celebrations, bringing together the scientific, technological, and human dimensions of the nursing profession. The program, held in the South Campus Conference Hall, was attended by Prof. Sabahattin Aydın, Founding President of Istanbul Medipol University and Director of SASPAM; Prof. Sema Kuğuoğlu, Head of the Department of Nursing at the School of Health Sciences, Istanbul Medipol University; Aysun Say, Director of Nursing Services at Medipol Pendik University Hospital; Prof. Melek Nihal Esin, Dean of the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa; Prof. Yeter Kitiş, Head of the Department of Health Management at Istanbul Medipol University; Prof. Yurdanur Dikmen, Dean of the School of Health Sciences at Kocaeli Health and Technology University; as well as academics, nurses, and a large number of students.
The symposium, which highlighted the scientific foundation, human dimension, and forward-looking vision of the nursing profession, addressed a range of contemporary topics, including sustainable healthcare services, eco-nursing, resource utilization, green hospital practices, digital health technologies, artificial intelligence-supported care systems, and the digital carbon footprint. The event emphasized that nursing is not merely a profession that delivers care services; rather, it is a strategic force that protects public health, shapes healthcare policies, adapts to digital transformation, and assumes responsibility for building a sustainable future.
