School of Pharmacy students don their white coats

Senior students of the Turkish Program of the School of Pharmacy at Istanbul Medipol University took an important step in their professional journey by participating in a white coat ceremony. During the event, the ethical values of the pharmacy profession, a patient-centered approach, and the importance of lifelong learning were emphasized.

The “School of Pharmacy Turkish Program White Coat Ceremony” organized by the School of Pharmacy at Istanbul Medipol University was held successfully. During the ceremony, which took place in the South Campus Conference Hall, senior students donned their white coats and entered a new phase of their professional lives.

The event was attended by Prof. Gülden Zehra Omurtag, Dean of the School of Pharmacy at Istanbul Medipol University, Assoc. Prof. Ayşe Esra Karadağ and Assoc. Prof. Muhammet Davut Arpa, Vice Deans of the School of Pharmacy, as well as faculty members, students, and their families. In her opening remarks, Prof. Gülden Zehra Omurtag spoke about the ethical responsibilities of the profession, the commitment to serving human health, and the contemporary understanding of pharmacy that accompanies the wearing of the white coat.

PROF. OMURTAG: THE WHITE COAT IS A SYMBOL OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
In her opening speech, Prof. Gülden Zehra Omurtag, Dean of the School of Pharmacy, stated that the white coat is not merely a symbolic garment but also an important indicator of professional responsibility. Omurtag emphasized that the white coat represents cleanliness, trust, ethical values, and the importance attached to human life.

Noting that pharmacy is a profession with diverse fields of practice, Omurtag explained that graduates can pursue careers in many areas, including hospital pharmacy, the pharmaceutical industry, and R&D. She stated that since its establishment, the School has aimed to educate highly qualified pharmacists through its student-centered educational approach and made the following remarks: 

“The white coat you will wear today places a great responsibility upon you. Throughout your professional lives, I hope that you will remain committed to ethical values, take science as your guide, and always prioritize serving human health.”

“OUR SCHOOL IS CELEBRATING ITS 15TH ANNIVERSARY”
Stating that the School began its educational activities in 2011 and is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, Omurtag highlighted that the School of Pharmacy has successfully achieved full accreditation for the third time.

Emphasizing that the School’s educational programs have a strong patient-centered and practice-oriented structure, Omurtag concluded her remarks by saying:

“We expect our students to develop themselves in the fields of foreign languages, technology, and artificial intelligence, and to become lifelong learners while remaining committed to ethical values.”

FUTURE PHARMACISTS DONNED THEIR WHITE COATS
As part of the ceremony, plaques were presented to high-achieving students by Prof. Gülden Zehra Omurtag, Dean of the School, and Assoc. Prof. Muhammet Davut Arpa, Vice Dean. Following a video presentation featuring highlights from the students’ five-year educational journey, the white coat ceremony commenced. The program concluded with the recitation of the Pharmacy Anthem and a group photograph session.
