Medipol’s exemplary reverse brain drain project

The study, supported by Istanbul Medipol University's Scientific Research Projects (BAP), encourages Turkish expatriate scientists to return to the country and analyses the impact of their return on the health system in its scientific and social dimensions.

In addition to its investments in science and technology, Istanbul Medipol University has launched a new project to deeply examine the motivations of Turkish scientists living abroad to return to the country and the impacts of these returns on the health system. In this context, the research “Reverse Brain Drain of the Turkish Healthcare Workforce: Analysis of Scientific and Social Impacts”, coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Ömer Erdem Koçak of Istanbul Medipol University Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, has been supported by the university's Scientific Research Projects (BAP). The project, which aims to make significant contributions to Türkiye’s scientific knowledge, is being advised by the School of Medical faculty member Dr. Muhammed İkbal Alp, and Fırat Semih Avşar, Furkan Baki Zaralioğlu, and Fatma Güzhan are working as researchers in the project. The research, which intends to increase the qualified scientific workforce, especially in the health sector, also aims to reveal the contributions of reverse brain drain to Türkiye’s scientific capacity. The project aims to generate knowledge that will increase the international competitiveness of Türkiye’s health sector, provide concrete recommendations that will guide health policy, reach a wider audience, and benefit our country’s intellectual production.
