In the event organized by Istanbul Medipol University International Relations and Foreign Policy Club, Retired Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü met with students. In the conversation moderated by Assoc. Prof. Halil Kürşad Aslan, Üzümcü discussed international migration, global economic crises, global environmental problems, energy crises, wars, elections, and the balance of power in the world. Drawing attention to the influence of the People’s Republic of China in global politics, Üzümcü said: “In the aftermath of the Cold War, more than two countries dominate world governance. We are in a multipolar order where globalization is advancing rapidly. The People’s Republic of China is on the rise with economic, technological, and military developments. Russia, on the other hand, has declined, losing its former power and influence. The rising countries are Brazil, India, Türkiye, also called ‘Regional Powers’. There are other rising countries such as India, Pakistan, Israel, and North Korea, which are nuclear power countries. So we need to start addressing these issues.”
