Prof. Kerem Alkin of the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences gave Anadolu Agency an assessment of the ongoing economic conflict between the U.S. and China and its possible impact on Türkiye.
Prof. Kerem Alkin of Istanbul Medipol University’s Faculty of Business and Management Sciences made statements to the Anadolu Agency Podcast. Prof. Alkin answered the questions, “What will be the global impact of the trade war launched by US President Donald Trump against China? What are the opportunities offered to Turkish industry by this period?” in all its dimensions. Prof. Alkin said: “Türkiye was among the countries that were ‘positively favored’ by the Trump administration with the 10 percent additional customs tariff. This situation means that a historic window of opportunity has opened for Türkiye’s exports to the US. While only a 10 percent additional customs tariff is applied to Turkish export products, a 145 percent tariff has been imposed on China for the same products. This situation provides a significant advantage to highly competitive Turkish exporters in the American market. To put it bluntly, under these circumstances, Türkiye has seized a serious opportunity to increase its exports to the U.S. market.”
