Dr. Damla Sönmez from the School of Education of Istanbul Medipol University received an award with her doctoral dissertation titled “Criticizing PISA Mathematics Literacy Questions from Different Perspectives”.
The doctoral thesis “Criticizing PISA Mathematics Literacy Questions from Different Perspectives” by Dr. Damla Sönmez, who is a Faculty Member at the Department of Mathematics of the School of Education at Istanbul Medipol University, received an award by Bursa Uludağ University. Sönmez was presented with her award at a ceremony held at Bursa Uludağ University Institute of Educational Sciences. Sönmez provided the following information about her thesis: “The OECD conducts PISA exams every 3 years in many countries around the world. Türkiye, an OECD country, has been participating in these exams since 2003. In this thesis, the mathematical literacy levels of students, which is a topic that is constantly discussed in our country, were examined in various dimensions and the errors they made during question solving were analyzed. In the thesis, the opinions of mathematics teachers working in middle and high schools on the mathematical literacy proficiency level table were taken and finally, some revisions were made in line with the data obtained in the table.”
