An event titled “Podcast: The New Age of Audio Broadcasting” was organized by Istanbul Medipol University School of Communication. The guest of the event held in the South Campus was Rıfat Özcan, Founder of Podeus and Podcaster Application. Özcan, who made evaluations about the past, present and future of podcast broadcasting, said: “Podcast was first used in The Guardian on February 12, 2004 and has become an important tool in terms of time management. Since the pandemic, there has been a significant increase in the number of listeners and their profiles. People can listen to podcasts while doing other things. Although the word ‘podcast’ may sound new to us, we are quite familiar with such consumption habits. For example, we consume audio content in a similar way while watching TV at home.”
“ANYONE CAN MAKE A PODCAST”
Özcan emphasized that anyone can make a podcast, but there are rules to follow. Özcan said that first, a discovery canvas should be created by clarifying elements such as the name, slogan, theme, target audience, broadcast frequency, duration, and format. Özcan concluded his words as follows: “It is also important not to make podcasts longer than 40 minutes, not to use copyrighted music, and not to expect too many listeners right away. Even if there are few listeners at the beginning, there should be no loss of motivation. Expecting immediate profit from the podcast and sharing without preparation are also common mistakes.”
